Tap into your creative side in the serene and inspiring setting of the Ranch Resort. This two hour acrylic painting experience invites you to create a beautiful landscape step-by-step, no matter your skill level. You will love connecting with your creative side in a class that’s expressive, fun and informative.
We begin by sketching out our designs using a grid technique, which helps simplify shapes and create a strong foundation for your artwork. From there we block in main colors and values using large shapes that form interesting design patterns. You will also learn to mix colors and explore how combinations of color and value can guide the viewers eye to key areas of interest in your painting.
As your instructor, I take pride in guiding you through the process and helping you feel confident in your abilities. It’s truly my joy to see you inspired, proud of your work, and eager to continue your painting journey. Surrounded by the natural beauty of Laguna‘s canyons, this class is the perfect way to unwind and explore your artistic potential.

Lisa Rainey is a professional artist and art educator based in Laguna Beach, with over 15 years of teaching experience. Lisa specializes in leading creative, fun, and approachable paint classes for corporate groups, families, and private parties at the Ranch Resort. Whether you’re visiting Laguna Beach for a getaway or attending a corporate retreat, Lisa is passionate about creating a relaxed, inspiring environment where artists of all levels can discover their creativity.
In addition to teaching at the Ranch Resort, Rainey leads classes for the Sawdust Art Festival, LOCA Arts Education, and offers private one on one lessons both in the studio and outdoors, where the beauty of nature serves as a perfect backdrop for creative exploration.
A proud graduate of Laguna College of Art and Design (LCAD) with a BFA in 2001, Rainey is a professional still life, portrait, and plein air painter, working primarily in oils, Lisa follows the Alla Prima technique, painting “all at once” to capture the essence of the subject before them.
Lisa’s goal is to make art accessible and enjoyable, guiding students through the fundamentals of drawing, design, color mixing, and texture. Known for making even beginners feel confident and excited to paint, Lisa fosters an experience that leaves each student with new skills and a renewed love for art.
Reminders
I will provide aprons, however, if paint gets on your clothing, it dries fast so we will need to wash it quickly with soap and water. If possible, roll up your sleeves and leave your favorite clothing in your room.
A two hour paint class is preferable. If you would like a class that’s a bit shorter, please email me a day or two in advance so that I can prepare a simpler lesson. Thank you. Looking forward to painting with you!
