ANDY FECHKO – Director of Golf
Born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Andy Fechko began his golf career at the age of 14, working as a bus boy at the country club across the street from his school. He didn’t pick up a club until he was 17, and after some initial success, he decided to take his game to the next level.
Andy earned a degree in Golf Facility Management/Hotel Management from the Golf Academy of the South. Upon graduation, he became a Teaching Assistant to David Leadbetter at his flagship facility in Championsgate, Florida. Working alongside numerous PGA/LPGA and AJGA professionals provided Andy with the encouragement to seek out a First Assistant Golf Professional position at a prestigious course near Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. Within a year, Andy was promoted to Tournament Director and Assistant General Manager, a position he held for four years.
After heading west for warmer weather, Andy joined the Aliso Creek team (now The Ranch at Laguna Beach team) where he was quickly promoted to Director of Golf. Andy’s good nature and professionalism are frequently noted by guests who regularly call on his expertise in a variety of areas.
NICK JANKOWSKI – Head Golf Professional
Golf has always been a passion for Nick Jankowski. Hailing from Menasha, Wisconsin, Nick is a graduate from the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse. Upon earning a Bachelor of Science in both Psychology and Business, his early career as a social worker found him traveling across the country and eventually settling down in Carlsbad, California. It was here that his love of golf was reignited. With strong encouragement and support from his family, Nick enrolled in the Golf Academy of America and graduated with honors, earning his third degree in Golf Complex Operations and Management with certificates in Teaching and Tournament Operations.
Joining the Aliso Creek team (now The Ranch LB team) in 2012, Nick brings a wealth of knowledge as well as strong enthusiasm for increasing guest and visitors’ enjoyment of the game. Previously, Nick worked in outside services at Carmel Highland Golf Resort & Spa and as an e-commerce assistant at Carlsbad Golf Center. He is currently working on his PGA membership.
RYAN SHEFFER – 1st Assistant Golf Professional, Lead Instructor
Ryan Sheffer has played golf his entire life, ranking as one of the top junior players in the world. He went on to play collegiate golf at Notre Dame de Namur University in San Francisco, graduating with high honors with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. Ryan became interested in teaching while a student himself, when he was coached by Brad Brewer, the former Director of the Arnold Palmer Golf Academy and Top 100 PGA Instructor. He also studied the mental side of the game under Dr. Joseph Parent, the author of Zen Golf and Zen Putting. In college, Ryan began working with and shadowing two Jim McLean Master Instructors who helped him to further his knowledge as a teacher.
Ryan’s teaching style incorporates a variety of learning techniques, customized for each student. When Ryan isn’t professionally involved in golf, he is committed to studying for his PGA certification and working on his own game. Ryan’s golf mantra is: “Hard work beats talent, when talent doesn’t work.”
JAMIE ENGELKEMIER – Class A LPGA Golf Professional
At age 12, Jamie Engelkemier was already playing golf with her dad and sister. She continued to play through middle school and high school, before competing on the University of Northern Colorado’s Division 1 women’s golf team. After graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and a minor in Coaching, Jamie wanted to continue to grow her golf knowledge and skills.
Her dream came true to live in sunny California, where she attended the Golf Academy of America, obtaining an Associate of Applied Business, four certificates and the prestigious President's Award. Jamie’s passion is to teach golfers to become the best players they can be. She has been accepted into the LPGA apprentice program, furthering her career to one day achieve her dream job as a head coach for a top ten Division 1 women’s golf team.
ROB REINHORN - Golf Instructor
Rob Reinhorn's professional career began some 40 years ago. A highly skilled and experienced instructor, Rob is the founder of the Laguna Beach Golf Academy, Rhythm Golf and Laguna Beach Junior Golf. For the past 11 years, Rob has also served as the Laguna Beach High School Boys JV Golf Coach. Rob continues to evolve as an instructor and coach, gathering knowledge from leading biomechanics experts. He uses the Feldenkrais method of “Awareness Through Movement,” along with numerous yoga disciplines, and is Positive Coaching Alliance certified. Rob provides instruction in a way that is easily understandable, positive and fun. His lessons benefit from advanced video analysis that provides a detailed breakdown of every part of your game. With Rob’s expertise and this state-of-the-art technology, your swing will be carefully examined with the goal of taking your abilities to the next level.
