Tapas at The Ranch

Who likes tapas? You know those small tasty little bites that go great with a cocktail. I certainly do, but after spending most of my life in kitchens, and starting to pick up some Spanish, I began to wonder how the word for “lid” or “cover” came to mean a small bite of food.

The word "tapas" is from the Spanish verb tapar, which means “to cover". There are a couple of stories about how this word became the small food sampling we know today.
